They say you'll never get out Best run up to the hills Till those hills they resent you Send you tumbling down Take to the valleys Run to the rivers you see Take one to the ocean Find a way to be free They caught you in a summer scene There with your ice cream dream And it's melting in your hands And it's melting in your hands Sickly sweet and messy Place your head upon the foxtails Place your soul in quiet alarm Dream of a girl you'll never hold – Dreams of a girl you'll never hold – Never hold in your arms Desperate as a spring song Freshly cast into that sunny light To bounce off these side walls Hit you right between the eyes I don't like the costume that I wear No, it rubs me the wrong way Can I undress and change in To someone I think I wanna be They caught you in a summer scene There with your ice cream dream And it's melting in your hands And it's melting in your hands Sickly sweet and messy Place your head upon the foxtails Place your soul in quiet alarm Dream of a girl you'll never hold – Dreams of a girl you'll never hold – never hold in your arms Dream of a girl you'll never hold – Dreams of a girl you'll never hold – Never hold in your arms ...

Gonna cancel-culture everything Burn the house and toss this ring Disconnect from the constant ping Of my wayward ways Sure gotta fall to fall to get better Been round enough hearing the clown inside Tear me down know that I never claimed better Than anyone, whoa anyone at all I just need to find some good grace Take away my dirty ways Explain my dirty face, work it away With imperfect grace Imperfect grace Imperfect grace Flaws surround me thick like birds of a feather I know pride she comes before a fall Sure I’m young or old enough to know damn better But I know enough to know nothing at all Every heroes got a Pinocchio’s nose And it grows and grows - man it grows Shelve shock long enough oh to see A hero’s faults make’em just-like-me I just need to find some good grace Wash clean my dirty ways Explain my dirty face, work it away With imperfect grace Imperfect grace Imperfect grace I see your mistakes and I raise you mine Intolerance Police tow their heavy-handed line Shatter my confidence by twenty pegs Stories of my wrongs will have legs upon legs Legs upon legs upon legs upon legs I just need to find some good grace Wash away my dirty face Wash away this very place Away – away With imperfect grace Imperfect grace Imperfect grace Imperfect grace Imperfect grace

I am tired of running My two left feet won’t go Call the prison, call the warden Might as well just let him know Cause I don’t need anything – beyond four walls Cause I don’t need no – sugar in my tea Cause I just need a good girl – let me tell you see: Your smile sets me free ... Figure out what’s important Figure out what you need Put the pieces together Suddenly I see What it boils down to Cut straight through the fluff What you need – what you don’t son It’s not wizardry, it’s love: Your smile sets me free ... Big sky country Oh but not for me All them fair cities You can just let’em be Sit - with - me - now Quiet under this scrub tree Found what I’ve been looking for Smiling right back at me: Your smile sets me free ...

Space How is Carnegie Hall What will you do with it all All of your space is in spades You Need no one to erase All the discomforts of love Toss it, toss it away It’s uncomfortably gray It’s uncomfortably gray Caught in the crossfire of what we do and we say It’s uncomfortably gray It’s uncomfortably gray It’s uncomfortably gray I’ll Be stuck in this space Lost in thoughts that I chase Run faster, the faster they stray Empty Hollowed out like an old tree Nothing left but a pattern Nothing left but a memory Why is this happening, happening, happening to me I’d fight off the fiercest of beasts, but still you would flee If I could rewind time, I’d make yesterday Groundhog Day If it meant I’d see you smile, rather than go away It’s uncomfortably gray It’s uncomfortably gray Caught in the crossfire of what we do and we say It’s uncomfortably gray It’s uncomfortably gray The distance between friends, lovers, and enemies It’s uncomfortably gray It’s uncomfortably gray It’s uncomfortably gray

You're twisting all the rainbows Like you're wringing out a cloth Suddenly my heart Is feeling so lost Is feeling so lost If you'd tell me you need me Then I'd ice-skate on the bluest sea I'd teach all the frogs how to fly I'd grow flowers spread so far and wide If you've got a voice dear I could listen all-day-long But it's just my own fantasy As I drive alone – I drive alone I wish that you would see me Not the shadows on the day Like a penny on the sidewalk I'm not worth the energy Worth the energy If you'd tell me that you miss me Then I'd tap-dance on the tallest tree Oh I'd set all the mustangs free And l'll bury the gloom in me I'll bury the gloom I know, I know - I know I'm dreaming now A midnight fantasy, you and me And it never works out I know - I know logic is your best friend But it's not my friend, it’s a dead end No it lets me feel nothing I want to feel something You're twisting all the rainbows Like you're wringing out a cloth Suddenly my heart – My Heart – Is feeling so lost, is feeling so lost You're twisting all the rainbows

Chester McPolyfield - I think you know by the sound of my voice Chester McPolyfield - I think you know that I’m a nit-wit too As me how I know - oh boy I’m built the same way yeah Sure I got a few years - up on you Chester - but I won’t say They’re going to beat you in the subway They’re going to trap you in a corner I think you know that it’s real They’re going to push you out They’re going to make you fall down They’re gonna throw you off the platform They’re gonna make you crawl Chester McPolyfield – I hope you live in a big brash house Doors all in gold, locks on the gates – lots of windows looking out Call all the people – have a big party – let them see When they’re all gone – oh you still gonna feel the same as me They’re going to beat you in the subway They’re going to trap you in a corner I think you know that it’s real They’re going to push you out They’re going to make you fall down They’re gonna throw you off the platform They’re gonna make you crawl You got some rays there - so shine them some ways there - watch’em all pout You walk away man – make up your own plan – cause she’s no where If you get lonely – give me a call hey – and we’ll go wandering out Head on the highway – we’re going to find our place – here and now They’re going to beat you in the subway They’re going to trap you in a corner I think you know that it’s real They’re going to push you out They’re going to make you fall down They’re gonna throw you off the platform They’re gonna make you crawl ... Make you crawl ...

Hear the whistle, of the next train, calling out, coming through Past the campground, Abel Mountain, Where my love lies sleeping there In her camper In her blankets Nestled between these green hills My heart – beats with – you still Come the morning, fresh upon her Emerald summer, gentle dew Biggest brown eyes and a soft heart Enough to make this man unglue Walk the river Pick sunflowers I’d go anywhere with you Don’t know that I can stop thinking About what’s been missing It’s really there, in-person, Right - in front - of me Right - in front - of you Heart is driving, tracks to this train, hear the whistle, passing through To the campground, Abel Mountain, Where my loves lies waking to All the bright sounds As this world wakes Girl it wakes just for you Can I – awake – for you too? Don’t know that I can stop thinking About what’s been missing It’s really there, in-person, Right - in front - of me Right - in front - of you Hear the whistle, of the west train - calling out, coming through Past the campground, Abel Mountain, Where my love lies sleeping there In her camper In her blankets Nestled between these green hills My heart – beats with – you still ...

about

This inaugural album is a collaboration of seven songs, produced with legendary music man Bow Thayer and recording wizard Vincent Freeman, over the span of nearly two years.

These songs were made as a form of therapy during the slowly creeping discovery and processing of horrible truths.

Licorice Finn navigates a growing intuitive awareness for all the usual mental-murder suspects: love-desired, love-discarded, and love-imagined. Toss in some self-discovery to round everything out in the imperfect but honest fashion of Licorice Finn.
